Report Card

I had a parent-teacher conference today.  School ends next week and Citrus will move from Nursery 2 to K1 in a couple of weeks.

Our daughter needs to make greater efforts to communicate with her classmates rather than pushing them, her attention span is short when it comes to learning Chinese words but she loves singing songs in Mandarin.  I am surprised they did not ask where the “off” button is located — instead they were polite and noted that she speaks in full sentences rather than short phrases.  More like volumes!

Predictably, she has missed out on several lessons due to our frequent travel but I am not worried.  She will be able to catch up on what she has missed and has definitely learned a lot on our trips.

The only unfortunate surprise was that today she pulled down her pants and underwear and mooned her classmates while saying “nyeah nyeah nyeah nyeah.”

Her teachers were very uncomfortable and I think they had a hard time telling me what happened.  I tried to explain that this was inspired by an animated movie she saw several weeks ago but told them I took it seriously.  We would definitely have a few words with the wolves who raised her.

Thankfully she is too young to be charged with the Singaporean crime of “outraging the modesty of a woman”.

How did you keep a straight face while explaining to her why she shouldn’t moon people? ‘Cause I’d bust a gut trying.

It’s pretty tough. I settled for simply trying to explain that it hurts some people’s feelings.
