Found Dog

by Mitja on November 18, 2009

It happened again.  We were leaving the base late this evening and there was a puppy running around in the street.  I grabbed his collar and walked home while Elysia drove Citrus back to the house.  He is in the garage and we have 36 hours before we catch an international flight.

  • 1999:  Found “Norman,” a black cat in Brooklyn.  He turned out to be a mouser for Pete’s Waterfront Ale House a couple blocks away.
  • 2004:  Took in a german shephard overnight who was lost in our backyard and turned out to belong to a neighbor.
  • 2005:  Helped to chase down a dog in Virginia Beach that had escaped its foster owner and was running through traffic.  The other person who caught the dog was pulled into a ditch.  She was unfazed, telling me she worked for PETA headquarters in Norfolk and that “This was all in a day’s work.”
  • 2009:  Found a cat on our patio late at night when it was 10 degrees out.  A month later she came with us to Singapore.

No ID on this dog and the Singapore SPCA takes in about 1,000 animals per month and probably puts most to sleep.  The big problem is that this is a mid-size dog and almost all Singaporeans live in regulated apartment buildings that only allow small dogs.

We have a cat and travel a lot.  What to do?

We brought him to the vet, who said they would place an ad and possibly keep him. They warned us not to bring animals to the SPCA.
