I have been asked what it is like traveling throughout Southeast Asia with a four year old and I think I caught it almost perfectly on video.
Sure, there are aggravating times where my daughter slouches her shoulders and walks slumped forward with her head near her knees as though she cannot stand to take another step. But most of the time she runs. Or skips when told that she should not run. She bounces, constantly.
While Elysia was working in Indonesia and Thailand last week, Citrus and I camped on a beach on the Gulf of Thailand and spent five days getting lost in Bangkok. Yesterday we visited Monk’s Bowl Village, where a handful of families work all day making metal alms bowls for monks. They take eight pieces of metal and fasten them together with copper, heating the bowl in a fire and then hammering them until they are smooth. I bought two.
The families work on Soi Ban Bat, a lane so narrow that you feel as though you are walking through everyone’s home. Which you kind of are doing as you step over garden hoses and walk around people eating lunch. But strangers saying hello and reaching out to pat her head does not slow her down. It takes a bunny rabbit to stop her.
[This video was taken after about four hours of walking around Bangkok in 90-degree heat and visiting a national museum. She slowed down about two hours later.]

She’s so cute, and must be a lot of fun to travel with! We’ll have to do a foster kids/kids trip:*)
