Compounding Lollipops

by Mitja on July 14, 2009

blowpopsAt the local mall today I was trying to pay for airline tickets at an ATM-like kiosk that was positioned near seven candy machines.  After she pulled on my leg and begged for five minutes, I gave in and got Citrus some lollipops.  We “won” two.  I told her she could have them when we got home.

In the car, while she was holding a wrapped lollipop, I gave her a choice.  She could eat one today and one tomorrow, or she could eat none today and I would give her three tomorrow.

She thought about it and told me that there were actually five choices.  She added three of her own combinations, all of which included one lollipop today and various combinations on the following two or three days.

After I told her there were only two choices she decided not to eat any today.  I pressed her.  She stayed firm, handed over her lollipop and went to take her nap.

I do not think I would have made that decision on the cusp of turning four years old.  Even now I tend to find a treat in every day.

I had better stay away from those lollipops.

She’s all about expanding the options. Did any of the choices include you making up for the lollipop you crunched away on at the start of our journey to Singapore? (http://www.navalgazing.com/2009/04/12/greetings-from-asia/)

At least she doesn’t hold a grudge!
