Exploring Singapore for Kids

pony rideWith Elysia out of town — on a ship, even — Citrus and I started to climb the walls of the house fairly quickly.  Luckily Singapore has a lot of good activities for children.

pony rideGiven the heat I was tempted to visit Snow City.  It is an indoor snow center where you can play in 22 degree temperatures for about USD$20/hour.  The perfect activity for me since a) Elysia does not like the cold and b) I always appreciate a place where you can eat an ice cream cone without it melting.

At least our daughter has enjoyed real snow.  The website notes that most kids in Singapore have never seen snow since the coldest it has ever been was 67 degrees . . . and that was in 1934.

Instead we went to Pasir Ris Park.  It is a large waterfront park with a little of everything and a giant kiddie playground.  You can rent rollerblades, fly kites, go sailing and kayaking, and there are overnight campsites.  Before moving here I was hoping to continue learning to sail in Singapore but the reality is there are few breezes, and the strongest winds are just before the big lightning storms.  We saw only one kite make it into the air but there were several people riding on sunfish sailboats.

Our destination was the pony ride.  Looks like our little girl is all grown up — no tears this time and I did not have to walk along.  Instead she walked off, telling the guide all about our move to Singapore with kitty.
