Elysia left a couple days ago for Thailand and will not be back until next week. Citrus, the kitty, and I have the run of the house. The kitchen, living room, bedrooms. We are now rearranging everything the way we want it. Which pretty much means that the dishes have to be put away, and not much else.
Our daughter is used to her mommy traveling and handles it well, although she did get teary tonight. I told her that mommy was in a place like Malaysia but she corrected me and told me that she is in Thailand. Other than that, business as usual around the house. Major indignation tonight
Daddy, why is YOUR underwear in MY laundry basket?!
and then laughter after I explained it was the closest laundry basket near the shower. Pretty much all smiles all the time with the exception of when I whacked her head with the Wii controller while playing tennis. Oops.
I wanted to go to Thailand but then everyone mentioned that the city she is visiting is a real dump. So I decided not to go. Then when people kept going on about how depraved it is — a town known for its sex trade and transvestites — I wanted to go see for myself.
As it turns out, Elysia reports that the hotel is nice and the people are creepy. A lot of older European and Eastern European men and young women with garish makeup. A prostitute came to her room looking for the previous occupant. The sheets are clean but the place has the smell of sweat and cheap perfume. After five days there I think she will enjoy being on a ship for a couple of days.
In the meantime, there’s been a good airfare sale and I have booked tickets to Indonesia and Cambodia. For only $180 the three of us will get to visit Angkor Wat for about five days. And it turns out I have a cousin to look up in Jakarta. Between these trips and another to Brunei it should be a busy summer!
